Lands where a print sits
The design drops onto the chest at a realistic print size, pinned a little below the collar. Drag, resize or turn it from there.
Listing-ready files
Download at 2000 pixels, what Etsy recommends for the shortest side of a listing photo, as JPG or PNG. One at a time, or several together in a ZIP.
How to make a t-shirt mockup
- Upload the design you would send to print: a PNG with a transparent background.
- It lands on the chest of every shirt in the grid, pinned a little below the collar, the way a front print sits.
- Open a shirt marked Free, change the size or position if you want a left-chest logo or an oversized print, and download. Shirts with a lock are in the members' library.
Check the design on white and on black
The most common surprise in print on demand is a design that looks sharp on a white shirt and vanishes on a black one, or the other way round. Thin dark lines sink into dark fabric. A white outline that framed the art on black is invisible on white.
That is why the free set holds black shirts and white ones, and your design is put on all of them at once, not only on the colour you had in mind. If the design only works on light shirts, sell it on light shirts, or make a second version with the dark parts recoloured. Finding that out from a mockup costs nothing. Finding it out from a buyer's photo costs a refund.
Each of the two has a page to itself, with what that colour asks of a print file: black t-shirt mockups and white t-shirt mockups.
How big should the print be?
A standard front print is about 10 to 12 inches wide on an adult shirt and starts about 3 inches below the collar. A left-chest logo is 3 to 4 inches wide. The mockups start your design at about the standard size. For a logo placement, shrink it to roughly a third and drag it to the wearer's left chest.
The full placement chart, with the pixel size each marketplace asks for, is on the image resizer page, and the print size calculator turns inches and DPI into pixels.
On a model, flat lay, or hanger?
Lead with a photo on a model. It answers the two things a buyer wants to know before reading a word: what is on the shirt, and how big it is on a person. Follow it with a flat lay, which shows the whole design without a body bending it. A hanger shot has no pose at all, which makes it the easy way to show the same design in a second colour.
Where t-shirt mockups matter
Amazon Merch, Redbubble and TeePublic render their own product pictures from your file, so on those three a t-shirt mockup earns its keep in promotion: a pin, a reel, a post in a Facebook group. Etsy and your own storefront show only what you upload, and there the first photo is the listing. Use the 2000 pixel download for Etsy.
Know the niche before the mockup
The best mockup in the world cannot sell a shirt nobody is looking for. Before the next design, it is worth knowing which t-shirt niches are selling now and how many sellers are already in them.
That is what Trendlytic does. Type a niche and it pulls the shirts that are selling on Etsy, Redbubble, TeePublic and Amazon Merch, with a score for demand against competition. Plans start at $19.99 a month after a 3-day trial.
A good mockup sells the design. The niche decides if anyone is looking.
Before you make the next design, see what is already selling. One Trendlytic search reads Etsy, Redbubble, TeePublic and Amazon Merch, shows how much demand a niche has against how many sellers are in it, and badges the designs that are rising now.

Frequently asked questions
How do I make a t-shirt mockup with my own design?
Choose your design file (a PNG works best) and it lands on the chest of every free t-shirt photo at a realistic print size. Pick one, drag the design to move it, pull a corner to resize it, then download the picture. The file never leaves your device: the mockup is drawn by your browser.
Which file works best for a t-shirt mockup?
A PNG with a transparent background, the same file you upload to Amazon Merch, Redbubble or Printify. Empty space around the artwork is trimmed automatically so the design sits where a print would. A JPG works too, but its white background shows as a white box on a coloured shirt.
Can I get a black t-shirt mockup and a white one from the same design?
Yes. The free set has black shirts and white ones, and your design is put on all of them at once, so you see the two side by side. The Colour buttons narrow the grid to one or the other. A design that reads well on white often disappears on black, and this is the fastest way to catch it before you list. The members' library has many more of each, and about twenty other colours.
Are there kids, toddler and teen t-shirt mockups?
Yes. The Who buttons above the grid split the photos by who wears the shirt: women, men, teens, girls, boys and toddlers, plus the shirt on its own, laid flat or on a hanger. Pick one and only those mockups show, with your design already on each, so a kids' design is checked on a kids' tee and not on an adult one.
Which t-shirt mockups are free?
The ones marked Free in the grid: one for each type (women, men, teens, girls, boys and toddlers) and two flat lays. They download with no account and no watermark, as often as you like. The rest of the t-shirt library is for Trendlytic members and opens inside the app, where a mockup takes 1 credit from the plan the first time and is free to download again. A few locked shirts are shown after the free ones with your design on them, so you know what you would be getting before you start a trial.
Can I use these t-shirt mockups commercially?
Yes. We generated every blank shirt photo ourselves with AI, so there is no photographer to license from and no model release to collect. Put the pictures you download in Etsy listings, your own store, ads and social posts. You do not have to credit us, and that is true of the free shirts and the members' ones. A marketplace's own rules for listing photos still apply.
What size is the downloaded t-shirt mockup?
Up to 2000 by 2000 pixels: 2000 is what Etsy recommends for the shortest side of a listing photo. You can also download at 1440 or 1000 pixels when you want a lighter file for social media. JPG is the default; PNG is there if you need it.
