What you get
Redbubble's IP/Publicity Rights Policy (updated June 2023) leaves the question with the artist: you take full responsibility for the works you upload, and trademark law, it explains, covers words as well as logos. Its help pages then describe what follows. A work is typically removed once the owner of a right names it in a valid takedown notice, now and then without one, and Redbubble says it cannot tell you why a rights holder objected. When works under one account draw repeated claims, the account is restricted and none of its works are for sale until Redbubble has reviewed it; the repeat infringer policy reaches as far as permanent disablement (Redbubble help center, read November 2026). The useful check therefore happens on your side, before the upload. Short phrases are where it slips most easily, because a few words that sound like everyday speech can be a live mark for one of the products Redbubble prints.
Classes matched to products
Clothing is class 25, stickers and prints class 16, mugs class 21, phone cases class 9. Each live mark is listed with its classes, and 25 is flagged red, so you can hold every mark against the products your design is switched on for.
What each mark claims
The wording as filed, registered or still pending, the goods it names, and when it was filed, registered and due to expire: enough to tell a mark on your exact product from one on something Redbubble never makes.
Inside your Redbubble keyword table
Keyword Research on Redbubble gives each phrase its own TM button. Phrases someone has already looked up show their colour in the table without costing you a check.
Famous names marked before any lookup
A second mark in the same column flags phrases that lean on a famous franchise or a real person, matched against our own list: claims the register alone does not show.
Slogans from Generate listing checked too
A slogan written by Generate listing is run through a USPTO lookup before it reaches your screen; a live mark shows beneath it, never hidden.
Plain about where it stops
It reads the US register only. Redbubble sells worldwide, so marks filed in the UK, the EU or Australia need their own search, and copyright and fan art have no register to look up.

158 goose phrases, and the one that is taken
Silly goose itself is crowded: 9,900 Redbubble designs compete for it, and it carries the marks in the lookup above. So we ran Keyword Research on Redbubble for it. It read the best-selling designs and returned 158 phrases, 26 of them best opportunities. The USPTO check on the top ones cleared asparagus goose, serious goose, goose car and business goose, none of them matching a live mark word for word. Goose bumps came back red: a pending application in class 33, for an alcoholic drink. Redbubble prints no drinks, so whether that mark matters for a sticker is a judgment call, and you now make it with the filing in front of you.

A fresh line for the same buyer, looked up first
Generate listing (2 credits) works from any Redbubble design you open in Trendlytic, aims at the same buyer and leaves the artwork alone. Next to the best seller Hang on. Let me overthink this. it wrote a new slogan, My brain has a 24-hour replay service, plus a prompt for the artwork, a title and a description. Before the listing shows, its slogan goes through a USPTO lookup, and a live mark would sit under it as a red line. This one shows none.

Where new Redbubble phrases come from
Each hour, Best Niches Today groups the Redbubble designs that started selling in the last three days into niches with a name. When we took this capture, a Sicilian coin, a bear fishing pun and a buck wild deer led with two Rising designs each. A card opens a full search, and any wording you borrow from a niche like these is one click away from the register.

A clean phrase still needs buyers
No live mark is not the same as demand. Searched on Redbubble alone on 29 October, art teacher returned Small Market, score 2: 60 designs from 12 artists, 46 of them top sellers and one Rising. Read the verdict on the niche first; a phrase only earns its lookup once the shelf shows people are buying.
Built-in trademark check
Check any phrase against the live USPTO register before you design
Type a phrase and Trendlytic looks it up in the live USPTO register and shows who owns it, its status and its filing date. Included in every plan.
And the designs that were never yours to print are marked
When a result leans on a known brand, a character or a famous person, it arrives with a TM or copyright badge on the card. You see it while you are choosing, not after a takedown. A first filter, not legal advice.
How it works
- 1
Find a niche that sells
Run a Redbubble search or Keyword Research and keep the phrases backed by designs that are already selling.
- 2
Put each phrase to the register
One click per phrase: every live or pending mark, with the classes of goods it covers.
- 3
Match marks to products
A mark in the class of a product your design sells on is a reason to change the wording. Redbubble lets you choose the products each work is offered on.

Frequently asked questions
How does the 3-day free trial work?
Every plan starts with 3 days free. Starting it charges $1 to check the card is real, and that $1 is not refunded. The plan price itself is only billed when the trial ends, and cancelling before then from Manage Plan means it is never charged.
I haven't sold anything yet. Is Trendlytic for me?
Yes. A search needs no shop and no sales history: type an idea and you see what already sells for it on Etsy, Redbubble, TeePublic and Amazon US, how crowded each one is, and a plain verdict. Start with the marketplace you plan to sell on. If you are not ready for a trial, the free tools at /tools need no account.
Does Redbubble check designs for trademarks before they go on sale?
The help pages we read describe removal after the fact: a work is typically taken down once the owner of a right names it in a valid takedown notice, and some works come down without a report when Redbubble learns of a likely problem. They put the responsibility for each upload on the artist, so the check before the upload is yours to run.
What happens when Redbubble removes my design for a trademark?
The work comes off the marketplace and you can no longer view or edit it. If you believe the report was a mistake, you can file a counter notice; Redbubble may forward it to the complainant, and if no court action follows within 14 days you can ask for the work to be reinstated (IP/Publicity Rights Policy, read November 2026).
What does a restricted Redbubble account mean?
Redbubble says accounts are usually restricted when their works draw repeated infringement claims. While restricted, none of the account's works are for sale; you remove anything that may infringe, reply to Redbubble's email, and it reviews the account. Its help page adds that it cannot tell you which works are the problem.
Can a short phrase be a trademark on Redbubble?
Yes. Redbubble's own policy describes trademark law as protecting words as well as symbols, designs and logos. Silly goose, a common phrase on Redbubble stickers, carried two live registrations when we looked it up on 2 November 2026: one for silicone dinnerware and one for silicone bibs.
Do takedowns change my Redbubble account tier or fees?
Redbubble's published tier factors are the origin of the artwork, file quality, consumer appeal and tag accuracy, and it says it cannot disclose every factor; takedowns are not on that list. Standard accounts pay a 50% platform fee and Premium 20%, capped at $150 a payment period. The cost Redbubble does spell out for repeated claims is a restricted account, with nothing for sale.
Does the lookup cover fan art or copyright?
No. Copyright is not recorded anywhere you could look a phrase up. Redbubble's own help page says that using a game character, text from a book or song lyrics needs a license or a defense such as fair use, and that not every country recognises fair use. A design of your own, made for the same buyer, is the safe ground.
Is there a free Redbubble trademark checker?
You can search the USPTO register yourself for free on its own site, and our free checker at /tools/pod-trademark-checker takes up to three phrases a day, no account needed. It comes with every Trendlytic plan, priced from $19.99 a month, right beside your Redbubble research.
