TL;DR: If Printful or Printify prints your hoodies, start with their free mockup tools: they show the real garment, back and sleeves included. Placeit has the deepest paid hoodie library, zip-ups among them, and Canva gives you up to 2,500 free mockups with no watermark. We built Trendlytic, whose 269 hoodie photos take one design across 15 colours and every age group at once; pullovers only, and a plan past the 8 free photos.
Hoodies carry many print-on-demand shops through autumn. Buyers pay noticeably more for one than for a shirt, so the listing photo has more to answer: how big is the print, does the pocket cut into it, what is on the back?
A generic hoodie mockup generator often fumbles them. Many tools were designed around tees, yet the pouch, strings, heavy fleece and hood all change how a design reads.
So I compared eight options on hoodie problems: back views, zip-ups, real listing colours, free limits, watermarks, licence and price, each checked on the company's own pages in mid-October 2026. One of the eight is ours. I built Trendlytic, so read that section with extra suspicion.
Don't miss the next one.

What a hoodie mockup generator has to get right
- A back view. Large back designs are common on hoodies, and front-only tools hide half of what you sell.
- Respect for the pocket. On a pullover, the kangaroo pocket ends the front print area.
- Winter colours. Black, heather grey, navy, forest green, burgundy and sand cover most hoodie listings.
- Pullover or zip. A zipper cuts a front print in two, so zip-ups need zip-up photos.
- A licence that covers a shop. A free download you cannot sell with is only a preview.
- What you pay once the free part ends. All prices are US dollars, read in October 2026.

1. Trendlytic: best for checking one hoodie design on every colour and age group
Hoodie mockups: 269 photos in 15 colours, mostly black (73), white (72) and heather grey (47), plus forest green, navy, sand, burgundy and a few more. Pricing: 8 photos free, no account, no watermark. The rest need a plan: Starter $19.99 a month (100 credits), Pro $49.99 (500) or Business $99.99 (2,000), after a 3-day free trial that asks for a card ($1 check).
What's unique: Disclosure first: I built this. The hoodie set is sorted by wearer (women 50, men 50, teens 30, boys 25, girls 24, toddlers 20, product-only 70) and by scene (199 on a model, 29 flat lays, 26 lifestyle, 15 on a hanger). Every photo was generated with AI, then fitted by hand with the area where a print would really sit, above the pocket on the pullovers. Commercial use is allowed and no credit line is owed.
Upload a transparent PNG and it lands on every photo at once, so you learn in a minute whether artwork that reads crisply on a black men's hoodie survives heather grey or a toddler's chest. Drag, resize or rotate it, then download at 2000 px (Etsy's recommended size for the short side), JPG or PNG, singly or in a ZIP. A photo costs a member 1 credit, from the pool shared with searches, the first time only. The eight free photos are on our free hoodie mockup tool.
Strengths:
- A single upload covers every age and colour in the grid.
- Heather grey, forest green, burgundy and sand are in the set, not only black and white.
- Each photo is paid for once, with no watermark.
Weaknesses:
- Pullover hoodies and t-shirts only: no zip hoodies, sweatshirts, totes or mugs yet.
- Back views are few, so a big back print has little to sit on.
- No AI scenes for members, and no direct sync to Etsy or Shopify.
- It is a niche research tool first; the mockups arrived later.
Best for: sellers who run one design across several colours and sizes, such as family or school designs. If the research side interests you too, start the 3-day trial.
2. Placeit: best for the deepest hoodie scene library, zip-ups included
Hoodie mockups: a hoodie category running to dozens of pages: models, couples, flat lays, garment-only shots, back views, full-zip hoodies and short videos. Pricing: the Unlimited plan is $89.69 billed once a year (about $7.47 a month), per Placeit's hoodie page in October 2026; monthly billing costs more, with a one-month minimum once you download. A few hoodie templates are marked free.
What's unique: Placeit, part of Envato, comes closest to a full hoodie photo studio: a separate full-zip collection, ghosted "invisible model" shots on transparent backgrounds, and templates tagged by blank, including the Gildan 18500 that Printful stocks. For zip-ups, few libraries offer as much choice.
Strengths:
- Back views, flat lays and full-zip templates under one subscription.
- Unlimited downloads, commercial use included.
- Hoodie video templates for social posts.
Weaknesses:
- The most popular hoodie scenes appear in a lot of shops.
- Recoloured templates can misjudge heathers and sand; compare with the real blank.
Best for: zip-up sellers, and anyone building an autumn collection who wants a different scene for every design.
3. Printful's mockup generator: best for showing the exact Printful hoodie, sleeves and back included
Hoodie mockups: every hoodie Printful sells (pullovers, zip-ups and heavyweights), in lifestyle, studio, model and flat lay shots from several angles. Pricing: free, with a Printful account.
What's unique: The generator lives inside Printful's design tool. You choose a hoodie, place artwork on the front, back, sleeves or label, and download mockups of that exact product. Printful lets you use them free across your site, social accounts, apps, ads and emails.
For hoodies this matters more than for tees: the print area on screen is the one Printful prints, so the pocket and zipper sit where they really are. A back print that looks off here will look off on the parcel too.
Strengths:
- Free, for every hoodie in the catalog.
- Front, back, sleeve and label placements on the real blank.
- Zip-ups and heavyweights covered, not only basic pullovers.
Weaknesses:
- Useless for anything you do not print with Printful.
- Nothing appears until you have a Printful account and a saved product.
- Its studio scenes are shared by a great many Printful stores.
Best for: Printful sellers who need a "this is what arrives" photo with back and sleeve prints placed as printed.
4. Printify's mockup generator: best for front, back and side shots of Printify hoodies at no cost
Hoodie mockups: hoodies across a catalog of more than 2,000 products, shown from the front, back and sides, with close-ups of the fabric. Pricing: free, unlimited and watermark-free. AI mockups come with Printify Premium: $39 a month, or $24.99 a month when paid yearly.
What's unique: Printify's hoodie page promises front, back and side views plus fabric close-ups, useful when the fleece is a selling point. The standard generator asks for neither payment details nor a subscription; Premium adds AI mockups that build a setting around your product.
One caution: Printify can route the same hoodie to different print providers, and no mockup tells you how one provider's fleece takes ink.
Strengths:
- Free and unlimited, with no watermark.
- Side views and fabric close-ups, which stock libraries rarely offer.
- Mockups stay attached to the listing Printify sends to your Etsy or Shopify store.
Weaknesses:
- No use for hoodies printed anywhere else.
- The AI mockups come bundled with a plan most people buy for product discounts.
Best for: anyone on Printify who wants front, back and side photos of each hoodie without paying.
5. Mockey: best for trying oversized, cropped and zip-up cuts before paying
Hoodie mockups: more than 1,500 hoodie templates by Mockey's count, in oversized, zip-up, cropped, women's, kids', back-view and flat lay styles. Pricing: Starter $9.90 a month (less yearly), Creator $19 a month with AI tools and video, or a one-time Forever plan listed at $199, per Mockey's upgrade pages in October 2026 (prices vary by region and offer). Free downloads have no watermark but are personal use.
What's unique: For range of cut, Mockey is hard to beat at the free level: oversized, boxy, cropped, zip-up and back-view hoodies, all there to browse and download. The catch is on Mockey's own apparel page: free apparel mockups are for personal use, and a store or listing needs Starter or above.
Strengths:
- The broadest choice of hoodie cuts here, oversized and cropped included.
- Free files come without a watermark.
- Video mockups and AI tools on Creator.
Weaknesses:
- Free downloads cannot go on a listing, so budget for Starter.
- Paid files are 1600 by 2000 pixels, a little under 2000 on the short side.
Best for: sellers deciding which cut suits a design, say oversized streetwear against a cropped women's style, before spending anything.
6. Dynamic Mockups: best for pushing a whole hoodie drop to Etsy or Shopify
Hoodie mockups: more than 100 hoodie templates by its own count, with back views, flat lays, models, zip-ups and pullovers, plus AI-generated scenes. Pricing: Pro costs $19 a month, or $15 a month paid annually; the free plan includes 50 starter credits, three AI images daily and unwatermarked downloads from the web app.
What's unique: Dynamic Mockups is built for volume. You render designs onto its templates or your own Photoshop files, describe an AI scene, batch-render variations and, on the Pro plan, link Etsy and Shopify. Its hoodie page answers the licence question directly: mockups may be used commercially, online stores included.
Strengths:
- Batch exports, handy when a whole winter collection lands at once.
- Etsy and Shopify integrations on Pro.
- Your own hoodie PSDs render without Photoshop.
Weaknesses:
- The credit system takes a while to understand.
- Free-plan renders through the API are watermarked.
Best for: sellers launching ten or more hoodie designs a season who want them sent straight to the store.
7. Canva (with Smartmockups): best for a hoodie photo inside the listing graphics you already make
Hoodie mockups: a dedicated hoodie mockup generator with templates you can recolour. Pricing: up to 2,500 mockups free, with no watermark on free mockups; past that, and for premium templates, Canva Pro, whose price depends on your country.
What's unique: Canva's hoodie generator lets you drop a design on a template, adjust its size, alignment and angle, change the hoodie colour and export JPG or PNG. Its mockups page calls the results royalty-free for personal and commercial projects. Canva also warns that mockups made on a free Pro trial can come out watermarked.
Strengths:
- The hoodie photo, size chart and text overlay live in one editor.
- Free, commercial and watermark-free up to a generous cap.
- Switching the hoodie colour takes a click.
Weaknesses:
- Mockups are one feature in a general design tool, so expect less hoodie depth than Placeit or Mockey.
- No link to your supplier's actual blank.
Best for: Canva regulars who want the hoodie shot in the same file as their Etsy banner text.
8. Free hoodie PSDs (Photopea or Photoshop): best for a one-off back-view or oversized shot at no cost
Hoodie mockups: whatever you can find. Mockup World alone lists free oversized, back-view, ghost, cropped and kids' hoodie files, and Freepik holds many more. Pricing: free with Photopea, a free browser editor that opens PSDs and their smart objects, or with your existing Photoshop plan.
What's unique: A well-built hoodie PSD maps your design to the folds of the fleece and lets you control the hood shadow, strings and fabric grain more finely than any browser tool. Mockup World says everything it lists is cleared for private and commercial use. Even so, the licence that binds you is the one on each author's download page. Freepik asks free users to credit it; Premium subscribers are exempt.
Strengths:
- Costs nothing.
- Full control over the hood shadow, drawstrings, texture and blending.
- Unusual angles and cuts the big libraries skip.
Weaknesses:
- Each design means opening a file and exporting by hand, which drags across a collection.
- Licence and credit terms change from author to author.
Best for: sellers with one hero design who want a back-view or oversized shot and have an hour to spend in Photopea.
Where the print really sits on a hoodie
Every picture above is software laying a design over a photo, not a print. On a hoodie, mockup and garment drift further apart than on a tee.
The pocket sets the bottom edge
On a pullover, the kangaroo pocket closes off the front print area well above the waist. Printful's advice is to keep key artwork clear of the pocket opening and the seams, and its placement guide puts full-front and full-back designs at roughly 10 to 12 inches wide, small chest prints at 3 to 5. A tall illustration drawn for a tee often has to shrink or move to the back.
Strings and the hood shadow
On most pullovers the drawstrings hang over the top of a front print, and a raised hood shades the upper chest. Plenty of mockups draw the design straight over both, so keep fine text and faces out of the band just below the neckline.
Back prints start under the hood
The back is a hoodie's biggest canvas, but a hood lying down covers its top, so Printful advises placing a back design low enough to stay visible. Showing it needs a photo taken from behind, the scarcest shot in nearly every library above.
A zip splits the front
On a zip-up, the zipper runs through any centred front design. Printful's guide says a large centre-chest graphic may need resizing or moving on a zip hoodie, while the back is untouched. Hence the usual pairing: a small left-chest logo, the main design on the back.
Fleece, fit and sleeves
Heavy fleece folds more than jersey, and every fold bends a flat design: flat lays and hanger shots show the artwork straight, worn shots show its scale. An oversized cut makes the same print read smaller, and adult-sized artwork needs scaling down for kids' and toddler sizes. Sleeves suit short text or a simple logo, as Printful also advises.
For print dimensions by placement, our DTF size chart covers hoodie fronts, sleeves, pockets and backs. Still choosing between a hoodie and a crewneck? My sweatshirt vs hoodie comparison covers which sells better.
Hoodie colours, and when to have the photos ready
- Black and navy: thin dark lines and deep reds disappear.
- Heather grey: the troublemaker. It sits mid-tone, so mid greys and soft pastels melt into it.
- Forest green and burgundy: they behave like black for thin lines.
- Sand and white: cream, pale yellow and light pink fade into them.
A mockup's colour is drawn on a screen, not dyed into fleece. Test each design on every colour you plan to offer, drop the weak pairings, and order a sample of any hoodie that starts selling.
Timing matters as much. Hoodies sell from late September through December, so the photos should be ready before that window opens. In October you are inside it: list now, refine later. If you sell tees too, my t-shirt mockup generator comparison covers the same field from the shirt side.
Which hoodie mockup generator should you use?
You run an Etsy shop
On Etsy, your own uploads are all a buyer sees, and the first one wins or loses the click. Lead with a worn lifestyle shot (Placeit, Mockey's paid plan, Canva or our library), follow with a flat lay and a back view, and keep your supplier's mockup lower down as the "what you receive" photo.
You print through Printful or Printify
Their generator comes first. It is free, shows the real blank, and is the only place where back and sleeve placements match your print file exactly. Lead with a lifestyle shot if their studio scenes feel generic.
You have no budget
Combine the supplier generator, Canva's 2,500 free mockups, our 8 free hoodie photos and a free PSD in Photopea for the back view. Skip Mockey's free downloads for listings, since they are marked personal use.
You are listing a lot of designs for the season
Dynamic Mockups if you want designs rendered and pushed to the store; our library if you want each design checked across colours and ages from one upload. Template-by-template editors are fine for five hoodies, painful for fifty.
You sell on Redbubble, TeePublic or Amazon Merch
These marketplaces generate product images from the file you upload, so you need no mockup to list a hoodie there. A mockup earns its place outside, on Pinterest, Instagram, ads or your own site, where a free tool is usually enough.
Whichever you pick, learn one tool well before adding a second.
FAQ
Is there a free hoodie mockup generator? Yes, several. Printful and Printify are free and unlimited for the hoodies they print. Canva allows up to 2,500 free mockups with no watermark and commercial use. Our free mockup generator has 8 hoodie photos with no account. Mockey's free hoodies are for personal use only.
Can I use hoodie mockups on Etsy? Yes, for print-on-demand hoodies. Under Etsy's image rules, if your own design is printed on a blank hoodie by a production partner, a mockup is allowed, and Etsy asks you to name that partner. For a personalised hoodie, the lead photo has to show the hoodie finished and personalised.
What size should a hoodie mockup be for Etsy? Etsy recommends 2000 pixels on the shortest side, so buyers can zoom in on the print. Our library downloads at 2000 px; Mockey's paid downloads are 1600 by 2000.
Do I need a mockup for Redbubble? No. Redbubble builds the hoodie images itself from the design you upload, as do TeePublic and Amazon Merch. A mockup still helps for social posts.
Can I make a back print hoodie mockup? Yes. Printful and Printify show the back of their own hoodies for free, Placeit, Mockey and Dynamic Mockups have back-view templates, and free PSD sites carry some. Our library has only a handful of back views, so it is a weak pick for a back-print collection.
Why does my design look smaller on a hoodie than on a t-shirt? Because the space is smaller: the front print stops at the kangaroo pocket, and an oversized cut adds fabric around it. A wide, short layout or a back print usually solves it.
Conclusion
The most truthful hoodie photo comes from whoever prints it, so Printful and Printify sellers start there. For scenes and zip-ups, Placeit leads. For a free licence, Canva. For cuts, Mockey's Starter plan. For volume, Dynamic Mockups. For a single hero shot, a free PSD and some patience.
We built our library for the case where one hoodie design has to hold up on black, heather grey and sand, on a man, a teenager and a toddler, from one upload. Plans begin at $19.99 a month after the 3-day trial, which opens with a $1 card check, and the same plan runs niche research on Etsy, Redbubble, TeePublic and Amazon Merch plus a USPTO lookup on any phrase you choose.
