Rates for eBay.com from eBay's Selling fees and Store selling fees help pages, read on 8 November 2026: the final value fee on the total amount of the sale (item, shipping, handling and sales tax), the $0.30 or $0.40 per order fee, Store rates for Basic and higher Stores, the 1.65% international fee, the Below Standard surcharge, and Promoted Listings General charged on the same total. The Store subscription itself, eBay's other categories, vehicles, eBay Live and other eBay sites are not covered. Confirm the exact amounts in Seller Hub.

Sales tax counted

eBay charges its percentage on the sales tax the buyer pays, not only on the price. Type the buyer's rate and the fee follows.

Store rates built in

Pick your Store level and the final value fee changes with it: 12.7% instead of 13.6% on most clothing and home goods from a Basic Store.

Works backwards too

Type the profit you want and it finds the lowest item price that gets you there, after every fee and your own cost.

How much does eBay take per sale?

On eBay.com, a seller without a Store pays a final value fee of 13.6% in most categories, clothing and home goods included, plus a per order fee of $0.40 ($0.30 when the order is $10 or less). There is no separate payment processing fee. A $25 shirt with $5 shipping and no sales tax costs you $4.08 plus $0.40, so you receive $25.52 of the $30 the buyer paid for the item and postage.

The 13.6% is not taken from the item price alone. eBay calculates it on the total amount of the sale: the item, handling, the shipping you charge and the sales tax the buyer pays. That last part surprises people, because the tax is passed on to the state and never reaches your payout, yet you pay eBay's percentage on it.

The fees that change the answer

A Basic or higher eBay Store lowers the rate to 12.7% on most clothing, home and garden, craft, art and toy sales up to $2,500. A Starter Store pays the same final value fees as no Store. Promoted Listings add your ad rate on the same total when a promoted item sells within 30 days of a click on the ad. Selling to a buyer outside the US without eBay International Shipping adds 1.65%, and an account rated Below Standard pays 6% more on its sales (7% after four months). After your 250 free listings a month, each new listing costs $0.35.

eBay fees against Etsy fees

On that same $30 order, Etsy's US fees come to $3.30: 6.5% of the order, payment processing of 3% plus $0.25, and the $0.20 listing fee, with no tax in the example on either side. eBay keeps $1.18 more on this sale but charges nothing to list your first 250 items a month. The Etsy fee calculator runs the same sum for Etsy, and the POD profit calculator compares Etsy with Redbubble, TeePublic and Amazon Merch. For where eBay fits among the other places to sell, see the Etsy alternatives comparison.

Fees are the small half of profit

A fee calculator tells you what a sale is worth. It cannot tell you whether the sale happens. If you sell designs, the bigger decision is which design has buyers waiting. That is what Trendlytic does: one search shows what is selling on Etsy, Redbubble, TeePublic and Amazon US, and any phrase goes to the USPTO register in one click. It starts at $19.99 a month with 100 searches plus the 1,000 top winning designs of the day in Best Design Instant, after a 3-day trial with a $1 card check. It does not read eBay, so treat it as the place to choose the design, not the place to price it.

You know what eBay takes. Know what sells.

A fee calculator prices a sale that has not happened yet. If you sell your own designs, Trendlytic shows what is selling on Etsy, Redbubble, TeePublic and Amazon US in one search, with a one-click USPTO lookup on any phrase. It does not read eBay.

Frequently asked questions

How much does eBay take per sale?

In most categories on eBay.com, clothing and home goods included, a seller without a Store pays a 13.6% final value fee on the total amount of the sale plus a $0.40 per order fee ($0.30 on orders of $10 or less). On a $25 item with $5 shipping and no sales tax that is $4.08 plus $0.40, so you receive $25.52. Books, movies and music pay 15.3%, jewelry and women's bags 15%.

Does eBay charge fees on shipping and sales tax?

Yes. eBay's selling fees page defines the total amount of the sale as the item price, handling, the shipping you charge the buyer and the sales tax, and the final value fee is a percentage of that total. The sales tax goes to the state and never reaches your payout, but you still pay eBay's percentage on it. Type the buyer's tax rate in the calculator to include it.

Are eBay fees lower with an eBay Store?

With a Basic, Premium, Anchor or Enterprise Store, most clothing, home and garden, craft, art and toy sales pay 12.7% up to $2,500 instead of 13.6%, and jewelry and women's bags 13% instead of 15%. A Starter Store pays the same final value fees as no Store. The monthly Store subscription is not in the calculator, so weigh it against what the lower rate saves you.

How are Promoted Listings fees calculated?

For Promoted Listings General, eBay multiplies your ad rate by the total sale amount, shipping and taxes included, and charges it only when the item sells within 30 days of a click on your ad. It comes on top of the final value fee. Enter your ad rate and the calculator adds it.

What other eBay fees can apply?

A 1.65% international fee when the buyer is outside the US and you ship without eBay International Shipping, 6% more on sales while your account is Below Standard (7% after four months), $0.35 per listing after your 250 free listings a month without a Store, and a $20 fee for a dispute you are found responsible for. The calculator covers all of them except the dispute fee.

Is this eBay fee calculator free and accurate?

It is free, needs no login and runs in your browser with no daily limit. The rates were read on eBay's Selling fees and Store selling fees help pages on 8 November 2026 and apply to eBay.com. Other eBay sites, vehicles, eBay Live and categories not in the list have their own rates. eBay changes its fees from time to time, so confirm the exact amounts in Seller Hub.
